PLIDA A1.1 Beginners 

In person Italian language course. This course is designed for individuals who are just beginning their study of Italian. No previous experience required.

In person Italian language course. This course is designed for individuals who have completed the Italian A2.1 course or have a comparable level (A2.1) of Italian.

PLIDA A1.1 Beginners 

In this beginners' course students will start communicating in Italian. The topics covered include: greetings, introducing yourself, daily life, interests and
leisure activities. All skills are covered: speaking, writing, reading and listening. In addition to the language, the course also focuses on Italian culture. After completing this course, students will be able to use familiar everyday expressions and basic phrases. Students will also be able to introduce themself and ask and answer questions about personal details.

PLIDA A1.2 Beginners

This course builds on the knowledge acquired at Level A1.1. At this level, students learn to understand and use familiar everyday expressions and basic phrases aimed at general communication. From the beginning of this course, you will start communicating in Italian. The topics covered include: describing a house, daily life, talking about the weather, talking about your weekend and vacation. All skills are covered: speaking, writing, reading and listening. In addition to the language, the course also focuses on Italian culture.

PLIDA A2.1 Elementary

This course builds on the knowledge acquired at Level A1. At this level, students Understand sentences and frequently used expressions related to areas of immediate relevance (e.g., basic personal and family information, shopping, local geography, employment).From the beginning of this course you will start communicating in Italian. The topics covered include: family, describing the appearance and character of friends and relatives, clothes and fashion, travelling, talking about the past. In addition to the language, the course also focuses on Italian culture.

PLIDA A2.2 Elementary

The course is intended for those who have completed the Italian A2.1 course or have a comparable level (A2.1) of Italian. From the beginning of this course you will start communicating in Italian. The topics covered include: talking about vacations, food, preferences, making comparisons, expressing opinions and needs, talking about health.

The necessary grammar is explained and ample attention is paid to vocabulary. All skills are covered: speaking, writing, reading and listening. In addition to the language, the course also focuses on Italian culture.

PLIDA C1.3 Advanced

The course is intended for those who have completed the Italian C1.2 course or have a comparable level (C1.2) of Italian. By the end of the course students will able to express preferences, opinions and use idiomatic expressions. They also be able to express themselves fluently, using the language for academic and professional purposes.

PLIDA C2.3 Advanced

The course is intended for those who have completed the Italian C2-2 course or have a comparable level (C2-2) of Italian. Upon completion of Level C2 students can understand with ease virtually everything heard or read and express themselves spontaneously, very fluently and precisely, differentiating finer shades of meaning even in more complex situations.

FAQs

What Can I Expect?

Our students learn to hone their language skills in a fun, engaging, and culture-oriented environment, progressively improving their expertise in listening, speaking, reading, and writing. In our classes, students listen to Italian songs and have conversations, watch Italian movie excerpts, present their projects, and, most importantly, are constantly engaged in group or paired activities.

What is PLIDA? 

The PLIDA program follows the guidelines of the European Committee for the Teaching of Foreign Languages. Hence, the program focuses on the development of the four basic linguistic competencies (listening, speaking, reading, and writing) with a particular accent on cultural matters. 

How long is each session?

Classes meet once a week for 10 weeks.

What is the tuition? ​

Tuition for online classes is regularly $325, Dante members Pay $300. Tuition must be paid in full before the beginning of the first class. Late Registration Fee: $25

​Do you have a refund policy?

Students who wish to withdraw from a class must notify the instructor no later than the second class meeting. Tuition will be refunded less an administration fee of $50.  No Eventbrite fees will be refunded. In the event the course is canceled, full tuition will be refunded, minus Eventbrite fee. There are no refunds after the second week of classes. We may grant credit vouchers valid for the following trimester for unforeseen serious medical conditions.​

 

What is the class size?

Classes have to have a minimum number of 4 registered students in order to start. Class size is limited to a maximum number of 14 students in person, and 12 online.

 

​Where do I get my textbook?

Students are required to purchase textbooks from Amazon. Nuovo Espresso A1 is the textbook required for PLIDA 101, 102, and 103.

Can I pay by Check?

Classes can be paid in full by check at the start of the semester. Please email italianschool@dantemass.org or call the school information telephone line at 617-301-8354 to sign up and pay via check.
