Alessandro Masi, General Secretary of the Dante Alighieri Society in Rome, has announced the death of Ambassador Bruno Bottai, President of the international Dante Alighieri Society. Ambassador Bottai was born on July 10, 1930. He served in many important governmental and diplomatic posts. His positions included General Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Diplomatic Counsellor to the President of the Italian Republic, and head of the Press Office of the Foreign Ministry. He was twice Ambassador of Italy to the Vatican, Ambassador to London, and Secretary General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. He became President of the Dante Alighieri Society in Rome, the oldest association for the diffusion of the Italian language and culture in the world, in 1995, and he worked tirelessly to improve its activities on many fronts. He was a good friend of the Boston Dante, and we will miss him.
